But Arco seems like such a nice bunch of folks. Folks with huge war elephants.

Since I went and saw 10,000 B.C. a few weeks ago, I have a new appreciation for mammoth/elephant rushes. Too bad that was the only good part of the movie

MA Arco is kinda the poster boy for classic communions. Check out my guide on communions, Arco has just about the most versatile communions out there.

Communions? I have not cast 1 communion Baalz. Death! Think Death plus Mind Hunts. Muhahahahhahahaha!

Though when i do cast one, I will strive to make it memorable.

In all seriousness, Arcos. needs something to boost its mid and late game. Their s gems do not convert to angels like Pythium and Marignon. So taking a pretender with high death magic gives Arcos. needed diversity. In EH II I was even able to get Well of Misery up.

There are many ways to skin a cat, but having a Pretender with high Death magic is one option.

Arco is the best nation to use classic... and reverse communion at the same time.

Good Arco communions often include slaves spaming things like stellar cascades or paralyze (with light of the northern star, power of the spheres for +2 S levels, earthpower for reinvigoration, it won't kill them), and about as many masters as in a classic communion.

With the best astral mages used as active slaves (astrologers or S2 mystics) and mystics with good elemental picks as masters (to cast boost spells then good old falling fire etc...) you can have 12 slaves / 8 master casting and lose nobody even in huge long battles (of course it's hard to have this configuration as mages ID don't let you optimize too much, and it's more safe to have some non casting slaves in addition).

Another communion strength of Arco is having 1/4 of the mystics able to forge matrixs, so any path you may find can be used for a master.
