I would say that the most obvious unbelievable aspect of the pod race was the nearly-inertialess turns... Look, a little metal ball attached to two huge ramjet engines is making a 90 degree turn without turning 150 degrees! If the things were really going that fast, there wouldn't have been any of the tight turns that were shown, all of them would be a few hundred meters in diameter.
