Countering Eriu
At first Eriu didn't strike me as a particularly strong nation, they only have strong air magic and stealthy sacreds. BUT I see now that I really underestimated them, I know they have mages that can fly in anywhere but it didn't occur to me that I can't actually kill them because they are STEALTHY! The same goes for large stealthy armies, can't fly in and cast rain of stones, earthquake, rigor mortis... all you can do is predict where they strike and that's... dificult to say at least.
So my question is, how the hell do you counter large sacred Eriu armies???

Re: Countering Eriu
Glamorous armies are problematic, but the answer in my book is usually just to counter raid them. If they are sneak moving and striking to avoid your countering forces, then they are taking twice as long to grab provinces as normal raiders and thus you can outraid them. If they aren't, the usual tactic of teleporting a killteam on top of them applies.

Re: Countering Eriu
What Sombre said sounds good. Another tactic, depending upon game circumstances, is to force a classic battle. Do this by sending a conventional army to a fort he cannot afford to loose. Of course, you then have to actually WIN the battle, but in theory its sound.

Re: Countering Eriu
Mind hunt works even if he is stealthy. Make/Trade for penetration items. Eye of the void, rune smasher, amulet of penetration.Your nation may not have easy access to Astral. But really if you can't at least scratch up an S2 at some point you are going to lose anyway. Just 1 mindhunt a turn with good penetration will ruin his day.
Otherwise, you need to counter raid him with guys who can take a province every turn. (an example would be a bane lord with flying boots, flame brand, lucky shield, amulet of MR, amulet of lightning resistance, jade armor) That guy would be a huge pain for Eriu to try and counter. Force him to keep up with your counter raids. If he takes 1 province then stealths away, thats 1 every other turn. Meanwhile you are taking 1 a turn.

Re: Countering Eriu
you may also find it difficult hitting eriu in battle once you do catch them because of glamours mirror image effect, aoe attacks work wonders because they hit the entire square(or sqaures) so it can't miss, so either thug/sc out with some aoe weapons or cast aoe spells, falling fires is particularly effective but there are others.

Flames from the sky, fires from afar, leprosy, murdering winter etc. all work on stealthy armies

I think a MUCH underused part of eriu is like ryalla. Mage assassins, although if I remember right I thought Erius was one of the best in the game.

Re: Countering Eriu
One more hint. you can use patrolling armies on critical points of your kingdom/ and attack enemy with armies and raiders/
And you can use some kind of counter taktiks- if your opponent attacks near provinces with moving from previously raided - you can teleport and kill raider/ (fomoria in rising sun stopped my attempts to use heliofagus and vampire sneaking raiders just by this taktiks)
And dont forget about horrors and other summonable armies(hordes from hell...)it can help you return faraway provinces/
And!
Use special armies for preventing being raided/ 3-4 can be enough with good mapmove/ in lategame to lose some provinces for some time isn't so critical
Excuse me for my english
