The game is probably something a bit different to everyone who plays and enjoys it and there are more than enough player preferences that can be adjusted to tailor the game to individual preferences.

Many experienced players only PBEM becasue they want the challenge of a human opponent . However, if the AI is already handing you your butt on a plate playing some of the sharks out there may not be the experience you are looking for either.

What I would suggest, for now, until you get more experience with the game, is to try playing with the player preferences either turned up a bit for your side or down a bit for the AI but always remember to check those before starting a new game becasue some scenarios are designed to play from what would normally be the AI side.

The game is not meant to be a walk over for a player otherwise everyone would have gotten bored with it years ago. It sounds like you need a " Decisive Victory" to keep you interested but those won't come easy for most scenarios unless you adjust the player preferences and that's why they are there.

OTOH.... I remember Squad Leader the board game as well and a Decisive Victory wasn't easy. You may need a human opponent to get you more interested. Failing that take your time and think things through and you'll get better results .
