Human Vs Comp question
Ver 1.67 gold. I'm sorta new at this. I've played only a few games all the way thru. Allways with med diff comps. I lost my first couple but then I became UN-stopable once I became just a little familliar with the tech tree. Since I can't seem to get a TCP/IP game up I've tried my hands at a couple of me VS all games. These are very tough games for me. Is it possible for a single human to beat all of the computer players when they are allied? I have tried twice and I can't come up with a stratagy that will beat them. I get close but then they come up with an uber-multi-cultural fleet and bLast me to hell. I may not have had good starts though. I didn't own one single 25 facility planet either game. But I did manage to get to turn 75 before giving up.

Re: Human Vs Comp question
Wow! I haven't tried playing against all the AI's yet. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must be. I don't think I'd give the AI any bonus in such a game.
If it were me, I would probably research mines and mine the heck out of my borders. Meanwhile, I would research warp closing technology. But I wonder if you would have sufficient mineral output to pay the maintenance on a Stellar Manipulation ship?
I tell you what would be cool... I've never seen the AI build any warp closing or opening ships. It would be cool if in a you vs. all AI game that the AI started building them much, much sooner.
I could have sworn that one of the beta-testers told me he saw the AI using warp opening ships against him. But all I've ever seen are planet creation ships.

Re: Human Vs Comp question
Disagree. I've seen AI using warp-point closers.
Can be rather disturbing when you still dont have the technology to reopen the WPs.
To explain the fact you've never seen the AIs using stellar manipulation any much is because rarely a modder puts stellar manipulation research on his AIs, as well as never putting the ships into construction of the AI. AI just cant handle the stuff well enough. Though if you're behind on tech, a WP closer or star destroyer could be nasty.

Re: Human Vs Comp question
I'll second that. I too have seen the AI use warp point openers, but it was one of the TDM races. As usual TDM AI smokes the stock AI.

Re: Human Vs Comp question
I've seen the:
Vandron Empire
Created by Matthew Millen
Use Warp Point openers. After spending 30 plus turns going through a damanging warp point into a black hole, it opened up a Warp point in my undefended back yard. About 3 turns later a fleet of BattleCrUsers came through. I'm glad I had Trade Treaty with them.

Re: Human Vs Comp question
Although a moded AI can build warp openers/closers, rarely use it with a real advantage for the AI.
Mostly (only?) will use it to open warp points to uncharted systems.
If the human player close all the warp points to save their planets from the AI attacks, the AI will have not a clue that need to open a new warp point to continue the attacks against their enemy...

Re: Human Vs Comp question
If you want to see the AI's use Warp Opening tech, then start a game with the No Warp Points box checked. I did this with standard AI and found the game was too easy. The AI's don't put in any extra effort to get Warp tech. I had about 8 systems connected before I saw any AI's opening Warp Points! (I had see scores active and so could see how many systems AI's had.)
