Units such as machaka spider have no upkeep once they fall on their second form, that is when the rider dies, does that apply for every unit this type, and more precisely does that apply on Gryphon riders, 125 gold!!!Ouch!

Yes, Gryphon riders are free once they become Gryphons. They also have low MR then too.

They are 'free' only in the sense that they disappear after the battle where the rider dies.
