OT Knights of the Chalice
http://www.heroicfantasygames.com/index.htm
This indie effort has been hard at work and finally made it to the lofty lands of a demo and the full game in solid condition.
If you liked the Dark Sun games---probably up your alley.
Ditto for Incursion---sort of.
Likewise for Temple of Elemental Evil---pretty much.
This was the first retail game I got a chance to properly test for in a credited manner, hence it is one of the things that ate up a good bit of time out of my Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa Revival project---but now that my duty is satisfied I can wrestle my backlog to the ground and again begin learning the skills needed. I'm hoping to remember this as the first of many as I try to break into the world of games proper.
They are just doing it direct for now, but the future is anybody's guess.
If Shrapnel might be interested in having another resident in the Role Playing Game section besides their resident Good Old Scallywag, do let me know and I'll pass it along for consideration.

Funny you should post this, I just saw it mentioned on a blog and downloaded the demo a little bit ago. I'm extremely impressed with what I've seen so far. Of course I imagine anyone who doesn't fondly remember the old school will probably take one look at the screenshots and run away laughing.

The bizarre isometric angle is pretty offputting, yeah. It looks like people are fighting lying on their sides.

Oddly enough, I "missed" this entire lot of generational games outright and this was my initiation to this viewpoint and style outright. The power of being 24 and starting with an NES(Well, unless you cound my time with what I think was a C64 during a trip to Turkey playing Usagi no Yojimbo...) and not really discovering PC's until waaay on down the line. Needless to say, I survived and hope other folk will too. In time, you do get used to it and it becomes swell.
There's a 1.04 patch incoming based off initial player feedback and there is strong encouragement on the part of the developer for people to communicate such feedback as if it is feasible outside of obvious bug smashing he is open to hear it.
Also, you can come across some well put together trailer fare on youtube if you run a search for Knights of the Chalice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6OLpqEZMAE Here's the old official one where things are improved much...some fan vids wrangle the rest thus far.

Yes, I would definitely be interested in the game even if the graphics similiar to the original AgeofWonders, the original Diablo or even Heroes_3.
The original Diablo was only 10MB in size after installation with patches!!

Re: OT Knights of the Chalice
Whoa - the font in this game is taken straight from the old "Gold Box" series of RPGs. Definitely brings back some memories. I agree with everyone about the art. It could use a lot of polish. The giants look particularly bad. But hey, I'm always looking for a party-based rpg so I'll give it a look.

There's been some more patching on a variety of dealies, plus some improved font work is in the works with the artist. Heh, no viewpoint changing though! Up at 1.07 now.

They are fighting on their sides. That is the powerful Oriental fighting style known as... "the Snake". Unfortunately the bad guys know it too.
Those screen shots do bring back memories. I may give it a whirl.
