New Sound Mod
I spent a few hours making some new sounds for SE4. Some of the ones that shipped with the game bugged me a little. Mainly because they were 8 bit and that means grainy and hissy. (Only one original sound was 16 bit.) MM may have stuck with 8 bit for performance reasons but I haven't noticed any slow downs using my new 16 bit files, let me know if you have any problems. It may have also just been a time issue, some of the creation dates are from '95. They may have just been working on the code so much that they just used the sounds from previous Versions.
I didn't really have any particular theme behind any of these although it may be cool to have some StarWars/Star Trek/B5/ sound sets as the mods start coming out.
I don't know if there is a size limit on the scenario/mod board so for now I'm just going to link to them at my isp, I probably won't be able to keep them up there that long but if people seem to like them I'll try to get them hosted at hyperion or somewhere.
Here is the link www.smaudio.com/sounds/se4_sfx_sm.zip
the file is about 1.7 meg and you just unzip and overwrite the files in the se4\sounds folder.
I know some of the volumes will still need to be balanced and there are some other sounds that could use an update but let me know what you think, either here or at - steve_m@music.com

Re: New Sound Mod
Nice job on the sounds Steve!!! I didn't realize how much better the sounds could be till I heard your new ones. I really like the new ship explosions. But the point defense sounds are the best, so far (haven't heard everthing yet). When my PD's open up on enemy fighters, you almost feel sorry for those guys
I hope you plan on making some more! Anyone who hasn't checked these out, you should, they are totally awesome.
Argh-I can't believe I used totally and awesome in the same sentence...sigh...sorry guys I was running out of adjectives
But check out the sounds, they really are good.

Re: New Sound Mod
Thanks Maximus!
I just realized that I miss-named one of the files, so its not being used. I've corrected the file name so you can grab it here www.smaudio.com/sounds/deststrm.wav or just go into the se4\sounds folder, delete "deststrm.wav" then rename "destrstorm.wav" to "deststrm.wav"
Sorry about that.
I've gotten some nice comments so far on the weapons sounds but would like to hear some feedback on the interface sounds as well.
I'll probably get to put some more time in on this sound mod over the holidays so if anyone has comments, suggestions or requests let me know Either here or at steve_m@music.com

Re: New Sound Mod
Thanks Maximus
- I like most of the sounds and plan to use those in my games. However, I am still partial to my muted menu sounds and pd weapon sound posted with my Mod ver 1.0. Glad to see some other "Modders" popping up and contributing!

Re: New Sound Mod
Steve,
Can't wait to hear your sound mod, no if only that damn mail man would show up, I could then get my full Version of the game. Hopefully Santa will come early this year!

Re: New Sound Mod
I'll get a new Version up real soon.
I just checked and noticed that my sounds aren't up on the mod board anymore, (I may have mis-posted them) so I'll get some up there as soon as I can.

Re: New Sound Mod
That is great news.
I reallllllly like them. Gives me reason to actually turn on sound in the game.
Can you please add some more sounds for beam and projectile weapons, so I could use them in my mod (has a horde of new weapons in it).
You can name them beam1, beam2 etc.
Please.
