The Brunnen G learned how to stop aging. Birthrates plummetted after that point and they took to living on their homeworld, closed off from the rest of the universe by some sort of shield.

Kai was one of the youngest, who led a rather futile assault against His Divine Shadow's fleet in defense of the Brunnen G homeworld (which was destroyed - I did say it was futile). Anyway, he rams the flagship, ends up on the bridge and gets killed by His Divine Shadow and turned into a Divine Assassin, though with his memories erased.

Divine Assassins are a bit hard to kill. Anyway, go rent the first Lexx movie, if you can stomach it and watch.
