Whatever the problem, it is not universal. In my current game, I was generating over 300k research points, and I've never noticed any discrepancy. I even finished 11 projects in one turn, and it went right on to the 12th.

Toward the end of the game I ran out of stuff to research and scrapped all of my facilities in two turns and went down to zero (or close to it - I probably missed some).

Definitely a bug here, I just had it happen to me. Although I'm not entirely certain when the bug kicked in, the only significant thing I've done within the past few turns is subjugate a neutral empire. I'll be playing with the savegame a little tonight trying to figure out exactly what happened...

Looks like the subjugation treaty was the cause of the problem (at least in my instance).

First I tried scrapping research facilities, and I scrapped them all the way down until the score screen was showing 47.6K RP's. The research screen was still holding steady at 50K.

Reloaded the original save, and broke the subjugation treaty with the neutrals. My RP's were correct the next turn at 67.1K on both the research screen and the score screen.

Assuming that RP's are "paid" as tariffs by subjugated/protectorate empires (though the Treaties screen doesn't reflect this), I suppose the bug is related in some way to this.

Edit, after more playing: Ok, confirmed: Forging a subjugation or protectorate alliance with a neutral empire (possibly any empire for that matter) when your RP's are above 50K causes your RP's to DROP to 50K and remain there until the treaty is terminated. I can re-create the bug every which way from sunday. I'm sending the savegame and my analysis to MM for fixing. Yucky bug, that. You have been warned ...

Do any of you guys who had this problem remember if you had a subjugation or protectorate treaty with any empires in your games?

Voidhawk,

Yes, the subjugation treaty seems to have been at fault in my case, as well. I pulled up my old saved game files, and saw that I had a subjugation treaty with the Cluk-Ruk that started just before the research points problem. I cancelled the treaty and ended the turn, and my research points went back up to where they belonged.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out.

Confirmed, I was able to reproduce this bug in my game, too.

It is a subjunction problem? I hada subjected empire and a limit of 50k research as soon as I broke the treaty research went back to normal

Thank you Gentlemen!!! It is the Subjugation treaty (that's what happens when you try to play peacefully).

I had a good game goin, had a Partnership w/the Phong (yellow guys) and noticed I wasn't bringin in much for the Partnership. So I subjegated the Phong and my research totals went from over 90,000 to the majic 50,000 number. (my colonies by themselves were producing 76,000+ points - the EEE were giving me 16,000+ - man that's alot - in our research treaty) So it is apparently the Subjugation Treaty that causes the problem.

I hope they fix it.
