Default USA OBAT12 Error

Hi,

I found a small error on the US OOB.

Unit# 520
M1129 120mm SPM

This unit is currently using icons 1778, 2514 and 1779 which show it to be a turreted unit. I'm not sure if this is a simple mistake in the icon selection or a mistaken belief that the M1129 has a turreted 120mm gun-mortar.

The M1129 120mm mortar carrier has an M120 120mm Mortar firing from a hatch in the rear of the vehicle. This is correctly shown on unit #519 M1129 81mm SPM with icons 2521, 2523 and 2522.

Unit #520 should use the same icons as unit #519 - quick fix.

It would be cool if the US Army did have a turreted 120mm gun mortar on the Stryker platform, but unfortunately we're still doing mech mortars the old fashioned way.

Love the 5.0 patch!

Thanks,

Adrian

I'll put it on the list to look into but I'm sure when I added that the photo that shows the unit in the game was the one that accompanied the info and it was turreted. Perhaps this was an early prototype ? So much of what was put in back a few years ago has either changed or simply dropped off the face of the earth

There was a turreted mortar system available for the Piranha II chassis (and I would imagine now the III, from which the Stryker was derived) and General Dynamics Land Systems proposed an 155mm self-propelled howitzer variant of the Piranha III, but I don't think the US military has seriously investigated either.

On a related note, the first generation of M1129 vehicles, designated as Mortar Carrier Vehicle A, could not even fire the mortar from within the vehicle. While wikipedia suggests that these vehicles were all pre-production prototypes, the two variants appear to be included in the technical manuals. I believe the XM1129 MCV-A was standardized as the M1129, while the XM1129E1 MCV-B was standardized as the M1129A1. Regardless, I haven't seen any indication that the MCV-As saw any combat.
