Another odd LC occurence
I always play LC's but this oddity probably will occur in any battle - not %100 sure on this one. Will experiment some more.
In all (it seems) of my LC battles (both in MBT and WW2), after you manhandle the first wave the AI commits an off-board reserve - usually 3 to 5 tanks and 3 to 5 APC's - in WW2 the APC's are Infantry squads.
Was playing and trying to destroy a pesky 81mm mortar section that had set up on the northern map edge. Upset at the losses it was causing my Marines I used a 155mm CM mission to try and destroy it. Of course being on the map edge some of the CM's went to the very edge - and presumably just off the map edge.
Anyway during the fire mission I got the in-games messages of the mass destruction of the (presumed) AI's reserve force.
Sent a UAV to the area and did not see the destroyed units on map though aircraft use near the map edge is tricky.
So I have to think that:
1) I got real lucky or (my feeling)
2) The game keeps the reserve force just "off-map" till it commits them and the CM's that go "off-map" will always hit them?
Again I will experiment some more to confirm this unless someone else has seen this or has hard info.

Re: Another odd LC occurence
The game does NOT keep a reserved force just off map in every battle but will...sometimes.... hold units back to enter as re-enforcements at various times during the game but , as I said, this does not happen every battle. What you will mostly be seeing is the AI reacting with units it has on map to your taking V hexes.
So......
1/ Any chance you have save games of either of these issues ?
2/ You say the mortar was set up on the northern map edge...... which side...Left or right ?

Re: Another odd LC occurence
There is little doubt you know about the game more than me - perhaps I did not explain myself clearly.
I've probably got 250 LC games under my belt and have seen the appearance of the "AI Reserve Force" in , I'm thinking, 80% of them - maybe more. I always look for it now because after you destroy them the AI gives up the game right after their loss.
I'm big into aerial observation and am positive they are not already a on-map reserve force.
I have lost units to them several times because of their surprise appearance on the map edge of the opposing side - usually 1 to 3 hexes from it shooting one of poor units point blank while I have been running around the enemy's rear area! The last time was a LAV loss from a shot 3 hexes away from the map edge area I had just driven through.
Yes, I have a save game though its been several turns since the "Reserve Force" destruction. The incident occurred just above the destroyed Iranian 81mm Mortar position near the northern map edge.
Still want the save game and how do I post it?

Duh...you can attach files if you don't use the "Quick Reply" and use the regular one.
Well, tried 3 times and get "Invalid File" for whatever reason.

Are you trying to attach the raw dat files? - won't allow that. See the allowed file types list on the forums file attach widget.
Zip up the game files into one archive and attach that. Zip or Rar archives are allowed types.

Re: Another odd LC occurence
..and I really need to know which side that mortar was on....upper left or upper right becasue it's relevant to know which side of the map the CM was spilling over

Re: Another odd LC occurence
OK.
I ran some tests on the assumption the Iranians were on the left side and did manage to damage re-enforcements scheduled to enter turn 9. There are a number of other tests I need to run but for now I will acknowledge that you have discovered something we'll need to look into so no need to send your save games just make sure you have given me all the relevant info about the position of this mortar. What hex EXACTLY did you target ??

Re: Another odd LC occurence
Game Particulars:
USMC v Iran
Nov 2010
Meeting Engagement
77 turn game - just a random number I always use - I always play till the AI quits.
Map size: 80H x 100W
Visibility 29
Actual 81mm mortar at hex 20,5
Suspected mortar (and 155mm CM target hex) 20,2
Currently in Turn 23 - guessing the CM ***-whooping came about Turn 20.
EDIT: Thanks for your quick reply and investigation. Great game - keep up the good work.
