Guide: Yet Another Hinnom Guide

As a sort of tangent to this, what do people recommend for weapons for thugs to use against giants, either Jotun or Hinnom type. The standard Fire/Frost brands don't seem as useful when there's only one or maybe 2 units per square. Would a high damage AP (or AN) weapon be better? Or one with multiple attacks? Shadow Brand has potential, but it's expensive and spreads the damage around.
What am I missing?
