Same here. These settings result in the kind of limited gold/gems you'd have in a "poor" game (though I haven't played one of those). The difference is the low province count means you'll encounter neighbors very fast and, I would expect, have a greater chance of early conflict. That's ok, though: just have to factor that into your planning.

You're probably right about that (unless there's a lengthy stalemate/turtling phase). I'll be curious to see how high a research level the final players achieve. And to me this is another bonus as I don't like endgame magic/SCs as much as I do early/midgame stuff.
