What about a 600-pound gorilla-style diplomacy? 'Hello, I'm a 600-pound gorilla, and I wanna be your friend while I kick the hell out of your neighbours'.
These who play just for the sake of it will probably agree, I am sure.

The problem with this diplomacy, Noobliss, is this: when one nation gets too big, especially in the early or mid game when there are still a ]lot of people on the map, is that you are libel to get gangbanged.

once someone has become lunch, you don't really want to be the only guy not digging in, and even if he threatens to retaliate disproportionately against you, that threat generally isn't credible enough to keep you from your meal.

so basically a 400 pound gorilla is in a much better diplomatic position than a 600 pound gorilla.
