Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
So I tried summoning a couple of these in a multiplayer game and after 2-3 turns of sitting around they've failed to summon any of their lesser boars while sitting in 8 domain. Am I missing something- do they need to be in a forest?

I don't think they need to be in a forest, but they don't summon a boar every turn.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
Rick L is right, they don't summon every turn. With the wiki down it is a bit hard to check, but probably something like domsum10. So expect one boar for every 10 points of dom each turn. (could be more could be less, it is random rolls each time). You are just unlucky it seems.

Bummer, and I had dreams of a hoard of them sending their boars trampling over waves of maeneds... well at least they'll try and keep bad luck out of my cap.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
You just need to start summoning them in year one. Then it works.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
I also gave it a try in a multi player, with 7 of those.
It has a poor summon, whatever the type of prov or power of dom.
i think one spawn every 2 or 3 turns.
they can also be useful to defend from indis and maybe even take back lands in later stage of the game if you keep them roaming in your lands with their summons.
I don't think you can get enough spawns to plan any serious strat with them.
Globally i don't think it's worth the 6gems.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
I've come to that conclusion as well... at least I only summoned two before figuring that out.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
I tried looking in the db, but the summoning effect is not listed there.
Well, they have other uses.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
7 Gems for an un-routable, sacred trampler with relatively high MR, who also has commander status.
Compare to behemoths (who are pretty good and sometimes worth it, given the right situation) at 6 gems and its not a terrible deal. True, boars are size 5 rather than 6 so a little less efficient at trampling.
But the boars have the added benefit of fortune teller and a dom summon that, while not that great, still gives you pretty good sacred troops that you would otherwise have to pay about 1 gem apiece for. So you can summon them early, not feel bad about them sitting around, and break them out when the situation calls for it.
And since boar warriors are now recruit everywhere you might even have a bless that works well with them. An E9NX bless is actually pretty great for everyone. Boar warriors, druid radiers, and the boars all love the reinvig, extra protection, and splash of regen.
Put a bracer of protection and an anti magic amulet (or elemental ring depending on what you're facing) on the boars and watch them go to town. They're like miniature versions of the great white bull.

Re: Great Boar of Carnutes autosummoning
Boars do not get the extra protection. That is for armor only.
And sacred status is a bit tricky to leverage without h3 priests.
