It's highly unlikely that your graphics settings would have anything to do with a range check error.

SE4 has a very simplistic graphical design. No 3D graphics(that I know of), and most are just simple bitmaps.

Hell, I bet you could run it without the drivers to your card installed, and just have the standard VGA drivers running...
