Well your horses look like a violin in a violin case that has been run over by a truck.

It's actually quite a bit harder than you may think to replicate horses from above with so few pixels.

Here's some actual size horses:


The third section are some modded horses by Welk I believe.
He does good art work. The rumps of his top and bottom horses are actually the same size as mine, but his use of shadow makes the rumps look smaller.

Once you put the icons in the game it adds shadow which I think makes my icons look better.

His cart horses might be what you are looking for. They have slightly smaller rumps, but I don't like the heads, the tails, or the manes which are too big and black.
