Amphibious Operations
Hiya Folks,
I was inspired by Shahadi's USS Bataan scenario ideas and started to play at designing a series of amphibious scenarios based around a LHD type vessel. I have run in to a limitation however and need to ask:
Am I doing something wrong? or is this a limitation of the engine? or a "Bugette"?
Whilst I can recover amphibious troops/vehicles with helos, hovercraft, barges, etc I cannot seem to unload/disembark them at sea.
I would love to drop SEALs, Rhibs, etc off from a helo or LC in water and allow them to make their own way to the objective, or boarding actions Vs Somali pirates!

Re: Amphibious Operations
Was going to post you have to do something with your creation but I see there is no need.
It will be coded so you cant unload in water hexes.
You could try assault boats, British OOB comes to mind.

Re: Amphibious Operations
Water hexes are illegal for helos to unload in. And always have been. Don't want drowned soldiers.
As are IIRC woods hexes - there are no rappelling rules for unloading there at very slow rate.

Re: Amphibious Operations
But a vehicle can't unload a squad with rubber boats into a water hex at all, can it?

Nope - nor "amphibious" infantry (ie those with a "swim" move)
neither can a vehicle unload a vehicle into water even if both are amphibious

Re: Amphibious Operations
A section carries a rubber boat, and that is activated by the action of walking into the water from a non-water hex and vice-versa.
The section becomes a raft unit while on the water, and several other things happen when they do the transformation.
They cannot "jump" off boats and paddle either or paddle to and unbecome a raft.
And nope - it is not going to change, nor is rappelling into forests or onto rooftops either. A whole shed-load of nasty code would be needed (not to mention testing the edges of the behaviour) without even considering the AI pathfinding etc, for a tiny bit of pseudo-"reality". The raft and the similar barge carier code is right nasty enough as-is.

Re: Amphibious Operations
As I understand it, rapelling isn't even modeled because unloading would require a helo to land first.
