Design Messages -- moddable?

Those are the results of entries in VehicleSizes.txt; the entry that defines the hullsize itself, also defines how many life support and crew quarters are needed, as well as defining wether or not the ship needs a bridge, if it CAN have an auxiliary control or not, what percent of the ship needs to be spent on colony, cargo, fighter-bay, etc components.

And some components can be set as "one per ship only".

More importantly, can these be added to or customized? I ask because I want to mod a component that can only be installed in a minimum hull size and requires a heavy wep mount. The simplest (and worse) solution is to make it of a size so that it can't fit; not good.

Doable?

I don't believe -components- can be given a requirement such as minimum hull size, beyond the size of the component itself. Nor can components be required to use a specific mount, AFAIK anyway.
