Slow, steady, and overwhelming firepower is the key.
Ignore the victory locations for the first 2/3-3/4 of the scenario and concentrate on eliminating the opposition.
You can shoot at caves forever and you'll accomplish little or nothing. Get some units next to them (preferably a hex the cave can't fire into) and assault it (this represents showers of hand grenades or demo charges), eventually you'll destroy it.
