Nonsense. It was other way around.  - Just to keep discussion open. Back to ST in SEIV, it is more than desirable to keep shipset designs as close as possible to some "canon" that exists in our minds - Federation ships should look like Enterprise and Klingons like Bird Of Prey. Atrocities shipsets certainly fullfill this criteria. Asking for more is as silly as arguing what are canon - ST:TOS or ST:THG ships ? Yes, really ?
