Re: Ukraine OOB New and Old Toys
Canada will provide Ukraine with new LAV series vehicles: Bison and Coyote armored personnel carriers
The Department of National Defense of Canada has announced a new military assistance package that will include the transfer of armored vehicles.
This was reported by the official website of the Department of National Defense of Canada.
Canada’s Minister of National Defense David J. McGuinty, who took part in the 28th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) and the NATO Defense Ministers meeting in Brussels, announced a new military assistance package for Ukraine.
First of all, he announced the transfer of armored vehicles to Ukraine from the Canadian army, including LAV 2 armored reconnaissance vehicles, which are known as Coyotes in the Canadian army.
The transfer of armored personnel carriers based on the LAV 2 – Bison was also announced. The difference between these vehicles is that the LAV 2 is equipped with a two-seat turret with a 25 mm cannon, while Bison has only machine guns and a landing compartment for transporting eight soldiers.
The total value of this military assistance package is $35 million. In addition to armored vehicles, it includes the supply of new equipment, ammunition and other gear to be supplied by Canadian companies.
In addition, $5 million of this package will be allocated for electronic warfare kits, which will also be manufactured by Canadian companies.
In addition, McGuinty reported on the advanced training of Ukrainian pilots that is being conducted in Canada. Canada has taken over the leadership of the Fighter Pilot Training (FLIT) element of the Air Force Capabilities Coalition (AFCC) within the UDCG.
The investment of $389 million over five years includes training for F-16 pilots, critical airfield equipment, and other support for Ukrainian air bases and fleet – all provided by the Canadian defense industry.
It should be noted that the delivery of this equipment can be much faster than the ACSV armored personnel carriers that Canada has been supplying to Ukraine for some time, and which are currently being manufactured in Canada.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that in June 2024, a batch of new LAV 6.0 ACSV armored personnel carriers had been shipped to Ukraine from the Canadian city of London.
At the time, it was reported that the first four of 50 new armored combat support vehicles were shipped.
