Re: Lurk Report HERE
Fyron, Digital signatures have been around for a long time,..
Here is a blatant example of a digital signature using my name..
In this example I used the RGB method of imbedding my name, the size of my name is 5 pixels and the colors of the pixels is defined by the ascii value of the letters in my name..
David Gervais
RGBRGBRGBRGBRGB
Hex example: R44 G97 B118 R105 G68 B00 R47 G65 B72 R76 G61 B69 R71 G00 B00
Decimal example: R068 G097 B118 R105 G068 B000 R071 G101 B114 R118 G097 B105 R115 G000 B000
You can also do variations of the digital signature, by just using the 'R', 'G', or 'B' values (which would make your digital signature in shades of Red green or blue.)
In my tiny example, the more 'visible' sig has each pixel greatly enlarged in size. the Last 5 pixels in the bottom right of this small gif are the sig in actual size. as you can see, it's hard to make out visually when there is something bigger to draw your attention away from the sig. even if that something is just a bigger Version of the sig in an avatar frame.
Cheers!

How would that be useful to sign anything? The only way you can verify it is if you know how it is produced, and if you know that, what's to stop you from producing counterfeits? e.g. I start making images with the "David Gervais" RGB code in the corner!
I suppose it might work the first time - "Hah! That's not mine! All the other ones have those five pixels in the corner!" - but then after that you'd have to change your signature on all existing images and a simple fc oldimage.bmp newimage.bmp would easily root out the differences...

Re: Lurk Report HERE
Ed, I never said or implied that this form of digital signature was fool-proof, or counterfit proof, just that there were ways of imbedding a digital signature into bitmaps. (heck once the pic is converted into a 'loss-compression' format like .jpg there is a good chance that the signature would be fried.)
Just because something can be copied or tampered with doesn't make the original less valid. I could errase the name of 'Boris' from all of his paintings, but that wouldn't change the fact that the painting was done by Boris.
Nuf said, Cheers!

Re: Lurk Report HERE
Well, it's friday and I really miss the lurk report. That said, here is a mini 'Lurk-Post'
This week David's Avatar Thread passed the 1000 post mark and he updated his Avatar Emporium,.. and wouldn't you know it, it is already out of date due to more avatar Posts. (Dare I say this guy is fanatical?)
On another note, the Name-Changing Thread has been spammed,..

But this is not a bad thing, just lots of fun. (I hear that this thread might be pure Evil, but don't let that stop you. Check it out.)
FYI S'Katchoo's Brain has been stolen, read the ongoing story here.. The Bar Trek Thread
I know this post was/is mostly self serving, but I feel much better now
Cheers!
P.S. I hope this tiny post helps Taz feel better.

Re: Lurk Report HERE
By force of habit, Taz stops by the Lurk Thread and discovers the Mini-Lurk Report
After weeks of no Lurk Report, Taz goes into a joyous dance at having something to read while lurking here!
Thanks David! Now all you need to do is lenghten it, add graphics and sound, and we'll make you the new Lurk King!
