Re: Any One Here Still Play
It's been my impression for a while now that some games are intentionally stripped down to give them stuff to sell later on.
I realize lots of stuff involves development issues with deadlines that are hard to meet, but sometimes it 'seems' flagrant.
It's something that just now comes to mind, but I wish the game review sites out there added a volume or density field to their Ratings...to answer the question of how much game is really in this game.
Had this been the first Civ game, I personally wouldn't have thought it ridiculous to exclude certain things, but being the third and given than 2 had and has such a wide multiplayer appeal, to leave it out of 3 is scandalous.

Re: Any One Here Still Play
That, and they killed off all of the great things that had been added in the Civ2 expansions. Multiple maps, event scripts, some abilities, etc.
Then you get to the issue of an extremely poorly implemented mod and custom map system. If you want to play with a mod and use a custom map, you have to combine them in the scenario editor. You can't possibly just load up the mod in the game, then start a game with a custom map. That would be too easy.
Say, anyone up for a MP game of Civ2 ToT?

Re: Any One Here Still Play
I have played Civ3 Play the World...... The new pieces Medieval Infantry and the Guerilla give the warrior/swordsman some longer use.
Besides the multiplayer, with a built-in internet server list (seems to be via Gamespy), the addition of several leaders/races is nice. It also includes many user-made maps and senarios..... so for $30 or less it seems worth it....
Maybe they'll fixes some of the balance issues someday... still to be determined...

Re: Any One Here Still Play
Again, everything but the MP is addable with a mod. Unlocking MP in the code should have been a patch, not a $30 expansion. It is my opinion that they deliberately cut it from the initial release so that they would have something to sell later on. Greedy bastards.

Re: Any One Here Still Play
These are good reasons why they can put off MOO3 as long as possible and make sure they put in EVERYTHING in it and squeeze all the bugs out.

Re: Any One Here Still Play
Wizarc, yeah! I much rather wait for one $50 program, that is for the most part bug free. Than to buy 3 $20 programs that are crap!
