Default Fleet Strategy, Default Strategy

Fleet Strategy should not have to be the same for all ships in the fleet. I would like to give one type of ship max weapons range and another type point blank.

When you give a ship class a default strategy,is it only used when it is not in a fleet?

Default Re: Fleet Strategy, Default Strategy

I think that fleet strategy only applies to ships within formation. That is why ships that break formation, carriers, mine sweepers, etc, will move to the corners even though the fleet formation is point blank.

What you want is the ability to assign different startegys within a formation. I don't think you can do that, but it would make sense. Maybe the ship strategy should overide formation strategy. Or how about the ability to assign multiple formations within one fleet for strategic combat?

What you can do is have multiple fleets with different strategies inthe same sector and then move them together by shift+right click. Then they will attack as one "fleet" but perform as separte formations during the attack. I think that would work anyway. I haven't tested it.

You can move and attack with two fleets together by putting them in the same sector and holding the shift key while you select both fleets. If you then click the move button you can then move them together for that turn and attack with them together (as long as both fleets have enough movement to get to the target in that turn).

You can also select a strategy for each ship design in the Designs window when you first design it. I believe the fleet stategy would probably override this but if you really wanted to micromanage you can select each ship as above and attack with them without putting them in a fleet. I don't know if this will work with simultanious move games but it works in turn based mode.
