Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
There are almost 300 shipsets available in the PBW file library. True a bunch of those are duplicates, and a bunch are if not outright duplicates at least very derivative, and a bunch are from various Sci-fi universes so may not be very original, and quite frankly a bunch are probably just crap. But after all that there are quite a few good quality original races to choose from. You wouldn't even have to make your own.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
I do have a very original race pic and empire file already. I only have a partial shipset, perhaps I'll borrow one and modify it.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
A significant fraction of the shipsets in the PBW File Library were made before SE IV Gold came out, also, which means their AIs will be incompatible.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
True, but AI's are easily updated, and aren't really needed for PBW games anyway. You can get by with just the pics, unless you plan on playing solo games or running turns offline on your machine. In fact with no AI files at all I think the game will just revert to the defeault AI files in the AI folder.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
True Geo,
But a lot of the AIs including with the shipset files cause a lot of annoying errors when you load some PBW turns!
Edit:
I should have finished reading your post. Yes, deleting the AI files solves the problem. It would be nice to get AIs for some of sets though.

Gandalph, Are we playing with or without intel? Just want to be clear before I set up my empire.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
I considered joining, but I'm not looking to get into any games where talismans are around in the near future. Too overly powerful and unbalancing for my tastes. And with the requirement of at least 1 racial technology trait, I know someone is going to take it. Sigh.
