Re: OT: Star Ships Unlimited
I played it a long while back. it looks neat, but i found the interface rather non-intuitive. I could design ships and build them, but I was never quite sure if i was doing reasearch properly, or how planetary colonization and development was supposed to work.
I felt like I was just ordering a handfull of ships around the map to 'run over' various icons to collect them, and to shoot at bad things. It seemed like it would be fun if i could figure out the more advanced features, but not fun enough to be worth putting the effort into.

Just picked this game up over the weekend. Looks interesting, but I had to wait to get to work to print out the manual (I hate those pdf manuals). So hopefully I'll get the chance to read it and try this game out. Has anyone played since the previous Posts, and do you have any hints, tips or cheats?

you read the manual BEFORE you play the game? you are a sad, strange man and i pity you. - Buzz Lightyear, Toy Story.

I forgot I had even started this thread and I was really surprised to see someone revive it.

Well, I did have to do a search on it. I could have started an original thread, but I figured WTH, I'll bump this one up and see if I get any responses.
Narf, I did try to play without reading the manual, but I couldn't figure what the heck I was doing. So I printed the manual out today, and hopefully will get a clue as to what I'm supposed to be doing. I don't even know if there's a tutorial on this game or not.

Re: OT: Star Ships Unlimited
Yeah, I hardly ever read the manual to play a game. When I come home with a new game I just bought, I'm so eager to play that I don't want to waste time reading. I just start doing stuff, and I only reluctantly go to the manual if I'm stuck and I'm forced to admit that I have no clue how to play. Then I just read the bare minimum to figure out how to get to the next step, and then immediately go back to the game and start doing more stuff.
Once I'm more or less familiar with how to play, then I actually feel like going through the entire manual and reading up on things I may have missed.

Re: OT: Star Ships Unlimited
Oh, yes, that game. I bought it a year ago and tried it. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to order one of my starships to attack another starship. STUNII was quickly retired in favor of SEIVG.

Well, I'm usually that way too. But when you don't have a manual in your hand to refer to, but instead have one on the disk that you're supposed to print out, that's what really irks me. So I printed out the manual yesterday in the hope that it will help me figure this game out. Unfortunately, I just didn't get the chance to read it or try the game again. And with 24 on tonight, I may not get to it again until Wednesday.

Re: OT: Star Ships Unlimited
Heh. I had and played that game for a short while Last year or something. It had its good points but not the long term playability of SE4.
I liked the weapon arcs system best I think. Maybe that could be borrowed for SE4 combat systems. Give weapons that otherwise might not be used superior weapon arcs.

Ugh, how in the world are you supposed to read that horrible font on the website!
Even fullscreened, its squint & scratch.
