Re: OT: Anyone know of any other good TBS games??
Surely you made www.shrapnelgames.com your first stop?
I also have to recommend Dominions 2. Just as I tell them in the Dom2 forum here that if they like Dom2 they should grab the demo for SEIV, I also feel that anyone who likes SEIV would do well to at least grab the demo for Dominions 2. Very different games but I truly feel that the addictive qualities are for many of the same reasons.

If you're considering fantasy-based stuff and not just sci-fi, Age of Wonders is good, and I heard Age of Wonders 2 was also good (though I never played it...)
Here's a link to some reviews for AoW2:

Then you have Civilization and its siblings, including Alpha Centauri, but I have never been fond of Civilization.

I don't particularly like Civilization either, though it can be fun. Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire is great!
And I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Total War series yet. I should be getting Rome: Total War in a couple of months since by all accounts its a very good game.
I also wish that there were more squad-level turn-based games. I loved X-Com and Jagged Alliance. The new X-com game and Fallout: Tactics were just bad.
Edit: And how about the stuff from Paradox Game? Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron etc. I've never played those myself but they have plenty of dedicated fans.

Rome Total war is FANTASTIC!!! The 3d effects in the battle sometimes made me forget was playing the game and not just watching a game movie
It's not "turn based" when it comes to combat however just so you know.

Re: OT: Anyone know of any other good TBS games??
The latest Version of Age of Wonders is Shadow Magic, a sort of improved Age of Wonders II. So you should go for Shadow Magic if you want to play this game, and skip Wizard's Throne. I have heard the first Age of Wonders was somewhat different, but I would have to compare notes with Spoon to know. (That, or simply pick Age of Wonders 1 at the local store; cannot be a bad buy for one buck after all)
Back on the topic of Age of Wonders: I would say it is an interesting game, especially for single-play (and better than the Heroes of Might and Magic series if you ask me). My main gripe with the game is PBEM, where battles between players are resolved through a very peculiar system. I do not know about the third-party content offered by this game though.

I like 101st Airborne, although it's no longer available. 82nd Airborne should be available soon. Check it out on the Shrapnel site.

Great suggestions everyone, I'll have to check out some of the demo's for the games you mentioned. But feel free to keep offering suggestions
