Re: Hey na, hey na, my power\'s back!
Update: The wind and rain got to Baltimore at about 2pm, so we headed south west for home. The weather got worse the farther we went. Got home at 4 and lost the power at 4:20. Then my damn old a$$ generator wouldn’t start! Got it going at 7, but it is running kind of poorly. I think it does not like the designer (low sulfur) fuel that we have here now. At times the wind is blowing more than 45mph, that’s as high as my weather station can read. And the already soaked ground is no holding any of the rain. So by morning I think we will have some stream flooding.

Inform you of what? You know where the place you will be working at is located before you get the job... I think he was speaking to GW's post
But a nation wide IT union would be cool. Might be able to do something about IT outsourcing with it.

Hey, I was just looking at the radar, and some of you guys in Ohio and even south central Canada are going to get to experience the storm. Outer band is in Ohio now, and the storm is picking up ground speed. It also has yet to turn back to the NNE.

well, yeah. closing someone's job down and not telling them about it in advance is wrong.

Yeah, they should let you know in advance, so that you don't waste your time driving out there and then find out that it's closed.

Re: Hey na, hey na, my power\'s back!
It's official - my power went out as of 4:30 yesterday EST (before the major effects of the storm had even gotten here!). I'm using the computer at work to do quick notices to friends and family that I will be incommunicado - for probably 3-7 days. Yep, days, until the power comes back. I have e-mailed my PBW games and asked for clemency in ALPU.
I'll be back when you see me.

Re: Hey na, hey na, my power\'s back!
7 DAYS? without power? I think even 7 minutes is barely acceptable, and would start terrorizing someone at the electricity company if I stayed 7 hours without power... Was that the first hurricane in that region? I admit, I usually hear more about florida and a bit up north when hurricanes are mentioned in our news here in Germany.

Re: Hey na, hey na, my power\'s back!
yep the rain storm hit. 8 hours of rain coming up.
Thats it.
People up here watch cnn and freak out.
Forgetting that there is 1000 km , mountain range and a big lake inbetween the ocean and toronto.
They had a hot line set up that we had to call into this morning to make sure it was safe to go out.
Did I call no. So I was called this morning and asked why i did not call in with a hurricane coming. I asked them to show me where this hurricane was ? All I know about is a type 1 storm that will be almost done when it reaches us. Like a summer storm. 40 km winds.
People. Gotta learn to think and use alittle wisdom. You think they never seen a storm in their lives.
No offence to the people down there. I am just commenting on the people up here.

Re: Hey na, hey na, my power\'s back!
Isn't that the usual way, Tesco?
Like here. A snowstorm in Bavaria, everyone there drives a bit more carefully and nothing special happens. A single lone snowflake sighted in the Ruhr Area, and all start acting like crazy and cause total traffic breakdown because of "dangerous weather conditions". Sigh.
