Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
My race, the Irha-Nrr, are a little _too_ helpful at times I think. A while back under the thread "Game Stories" I posted a chronicle of the game in which I developed their personalities, and they turned out to be militant pacificsts; they want all the fighting between empires to stop, and are willing to destroy every starship in the galaxy if that's what it takes.
A new race I've started fiddling with are serene sun-worshipping flowers; their personalities are unformed at this point but considering how the Irha-Nrr turned out I'm expecting them to declare jihad and start feeding enemy populations into black holes at any moment.

"serene sun-worshipping flowers" I like it. In my oldest game I'm playing a race of berserker bunny rabbits. Cute, fluffy and deadly.
But I haven't seen much interest in going along with that sort of role playing so I've toned it down and just try to make deals. Well actually not that many deals. Mostly war.

Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
I hope this community is not dying.
It was the discovery of Runesword I which led me to Schrapnel Games and thus Space Empires IV.
Having mentioned Space Empires IV to my friends who used to play Ascendancy and Master of Orion 2. Their interest has sparked, due to the fact that this game is so good. I'm hoping that they will join the SEIV community and actively contribute.
What I would like to do is design/alter a race to become one of the factions in a science fantasy milieu of my own creation.
Humanity had left it's cradle with the aid of sleeper colony ships. An age later a strange discovery enabled mankind to travel faster than light, the age of the Magi had begun. A Utopian society was the result...at least on appearances. Several factions involved in a quiet war, with the hidden immortal founders of this society attempting to heal the diverse problems found within.
Ideas for a magical technology-
Eldritch BLasters, Materia primi Cannons,Warp Storm Fetish.
Arcane Aegis, Arcane Ward.
new drive technology- Subspace/Underworld

Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
Well, there is a fully automated ladder for SEIV and SEIII at www.seladder.net/seladder
There's a few small things going on right now, but a lot of members are not doing much.

OK. I'll bite. How does this ladder work? I followed the link, and didn't find a FAQ or HowTo or Man or anything. How does this system relate to SE4? Is this a game of games or something? Looks like you are using some sort of map and economic overlay, but how it works is not at all clear . . .

Yeah, the ladder is kinda hard to get at first. The rules page should give you more of an idea.
The basic idea is that you make an empire on the ladder, and you get a position on the map. Your economy is based on treaties and the number of spaces you have colonized. Of course, you have to spend money to make treaties and colonize new territories.

Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
I don't know, it seems like it would be kinda fun to play the Illuminati in a RPG way. Could get real interesting.
I played a Forum Only game for 4 months Last year, and that got to become extremly addictive. (Says a lot about my life.)
Too bad that site crashed, and the players just could not get it together again to restart the game. (All had lost too much to just simply start over.)
SEIV give a player a chance to really get involved in RPG.

Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
SE RP communities are dying off some what. They are mainly, right now, cut off from most of the SE universe. I still get mails from people asking 'Does SE have any RP communities?'
Much of the isolation is due to the flame wars between judj and I (good to say none have erupted my NeoVerse RP community). MM has even said they are ashamed of the back stabbing and piss-poor player conduct in these communities.
Much of the fight lies in the ideals of Judj and I. much in the same way Liberals & Conservatives fight. We just do't like how the other guy runs his stuff. I prefer letting the fans develop the community as they need and running the community on the honor system. Judj prefers heavy law and strict enforcement from administrators.
On many occasions, I've gone to the peace table and got royally screwed over. Judj refuses to take any offer of peace I can give him. So be it. I just hope the communities can begin to heal.
Right now, I hold high hopes for the Multiverse Project's NeoVerse RPG. I've built a basic history for the universe. It's centered around 30 some on races. 20 of which are from the SE universe. I'm looking for people to start filling these roles and help develop the races further.
If anyone is interested, let me know or stop by http://www.hyperionbase.com/multiver...se/index.shtml
I hope this explains part of the problems in SE's Role Playing sectors.

Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
I forgot to mention, for those not getting it, it's like SE, we base the entire community around it, except players can expand on the universe by playing as the races. It's a free-form role playing game.
We basically, go into the forum and make Posts role playing our stories and such for fun. Just get along and hang out. Kinda like those trekkies/trekkers. We are merely expanding upon greatness with the hopes we are staying true to the dream.

Re: SE RPG community dying *sigh*
..IMO the SE rpg is starting to die out because of the arguments carried out in public, slandering each other, etc.. like we care to see it...
I am a member of the ladder but I rarely bother to rp because I lose interest after seeing all the ridiculous flamewars.
