Default ship movement slowdown on new computer

Hello, I have been happily playing space empires and assorted mods for years. I have picked up a new computer and the ship movement is terribly slow. The machine runs win xp, pent4/3gig with a gig of ram and ati pro card. I searched the forums for the problem and tried solutions mentioned-ran game in win 95/98 and 00 emulation, no help. Changed colors to 16 instead of 32 also no help. This is my favorite game of all time but the ship speed is making it unplayable. Someone plz help. I have all newest drivers and its defragged.

I suggest upgrading to win98

It sounds like you've already seen the other thread about slowdowns from the search engine. Hopefully someone else can help more.

I've never heard of a foolproof fix for it. Wish I could help...I just live with it.

Turn off all music and sound. It "cured" slowdown on my computer

Best I can determine is that it's an XP problem. I have it too and have tried everything I can think of unsuccessfully to fix it. I turned off ship movement and use the "movement lines" option instead and this is a pretty good work around. There have been previous threads about this problem, but nothing has fixed it for me.

I haven't had ship movement on since I opened the box (envelope). Running XP and haven't seen a problem. Does it only happen with ship movement?

It happens during ship movement in combat and during all strategic moves on main screen.

Recently got a new computer and had the same thing happen. I'm discovering that I hate XP for a varierty of reasons.

If you have CD music on and have another non-music CD in the drive - it does cause a major slowdown.
