Default Accuracy Bug

I'm playing a heavily fighter reliant race in a proportions game and I came up against what I think is a bug when i attacked a homeworld with my fighters.

When my fighters' were at range 7, the planet's weapon platform meson bLasters were hitting every time, at range 4 its point defense was hitting every time. They are not religious.

Then when I closed in to range 1 and 2 with my fighters, they went back to missing a lot, they missed a lot at those ranges for some reason. Only thing I can think it would be is some sort of accuracy overflow or something.

Anyone have this kind of bug, because of this, my 600 fighter force was whittled down to 400 before I got close, but now they are relatively safe, which is the opposite of how it should be fighting a homeworld. I think this is a fighter thing, but I don't know for sure, I didn't have any ships in the fight.

Perhaps the fighters managed to destroy some critical platforms on the way in?

If the enemy is another human, then they could have purchased a religious C&C platform to add to their stack.

Killing off the newer platforms with combat sensors would do the same sort of thing, but probably shouldn't be as extreme as you suggest.

This was against a neutral AI. They did have combat sensors, so you could be right. But their bases seemed to be shooting less well then the planet.

I managed to get past them and capture the planet with troops, and then I got the highly original event of an enemy ship that had troops as cargo tried to get back to the planet to drop troops to retake the planet. I wish AI was that clever with my ships when in strategic combat.

If you check the replay, does the planet have a weapon platform with a Fire Control Center? These look like combat sensors, but are large and expensive and only available on large fixed defenses (planetary Weapon Platforms and Bases). They can allow heavy weapons (of types allowed to fire on fighters) to hit fighters fairly reliably. My best guess is they had one but then you took it out, spoiling the planet's anti-fighter defenses.
