Real Time Client Game on PBW, right now!
I know some of you have been playing games semi-regularly using TCP/IP. Anyone interested in playing a game using RTC? I was thinking if we could get a few together at the same time we could get though turns as fast as TCP/IP. Maybe a little faster even. Certainly be easier to setup. The only thing is you wouldn't have a chat window. But we could setup an IRC room at the same time I guess.
Any thoughts?

I'd be interested.. I use MSN chat client. Would prefer to not have to install a new one. Some of them have web based chat capability, though.

The chat would not be totally neccesary for the game. We could figure out which one the majority of the people use, but whoever doesn't care about chatting wouldn't have to install anything for that matter.
Edit: Although, IRC used to have a java client you could chat in a browser window without having to load anything. Not sure if that's still an option or not.

I might be interested also.
Geoschmo, I do not see the RTC file on PBW. Also, I assume RTC is okay with 1.84?

Definetly compatible with all Versions of Se4. Well all Versions that are PBW compatible. Everything after 1.35 I believe.
You can get the RTC client from the PBW file library under "PBW official files". You can also get it off of the SEIV gold disk in the extras section. You will need to have the java runtime environment loaded also. That is also included on the GOld CD I think. I may be incorrect about that, but I am pretty sure. If not, it can be downloaded directly from Sun. There is a link in the RTC readme file that comes with the RTC client download.

PBW Real Time Client.
It was a little thing that Admiral created a long time ago, before Gold and TCP/IP were added. It does basically what TCP/IP does, automate the handling of the game files. Main difference is RTC works with PBW, where TCP/IP is built into the SE4 game itself. It has some advantages and some disadvantages over TCP/IP. It's not a direct replacment for it. Some people swear by it, some hate it.

Confusing navigation to the Play by Web Official Files, but it is there. Must click on the SEIV Official Files then Play by Web Official Files.

Huh? You shouldn't have to do that extra click. Clicking the File Library menu button by default takes you to Shipsets. From there you can click on any of the other 4 sub libraries, PBW official files being one.

Re: Real Time Client Game on PBW, right now!
I will give it a go.
About this Java thingy, I know this HP POS has it, but I am unsure about how to "start" it as it seems to activate automatically when a web site needs it too. I have access to controls after it activates, but know nothing about how it works or what it realy is for. I am PC dumb.
