Default AI State - What do these mean?

Lookin through the data files and ran across this several times.

AI State := Exploration, Infrastructure, Prepare for Attack, Attack, Secure Holdings After Attack, Incursion, Prepare for Defense, Defend (Short Term), Defend (Long Term), Not Connected

What do these different states mean/represent?

Where are they set - ie - what constitutes Exploration, attack, infrastructure, etc?

Is there any way to controll or determine what state your empire is in at any given time?

In a side note - Is it possible to add different types of world/colony classifications? I assume it is but I've not seen anyone do it in any Mods I've looked at (albeit only looked at 2 so far). I've always wanted a "Storage Colony" type world that would build nothing but Storage facilities... would be ideal for those low resource output worlds when you need storage but don't want to waste space on a research world, a resource world or an intel world (why waste those 10,20etc % increases on storage facilities when you could put another intell, resource harvester or research facil there?)

I think it's something in the coding. I've searched and searched through the datafiles, but cannot find anything on how the AI decides what State it is in. Just what it does in a particular state.

other things that would be nice: The AI uses boatloads of ship types that are not in the default list. when im running my own fleets, i just use the ship type as a sorting mechanism.. however when the ministers run things, they rely on that - and having access to all of the AI useable ship types would sure give the player the ability to more effectively use ministers..

A state driven AI is one that chooses a state or condition it is in and acts according to actions defined in that state. Its coded in usually (well, you could script everything in the AI, but that would be really nuts)

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.
