Default bugs?

i love this game, generally, but i have a couple of minor issues to address.

first, the (almost certainly) ubggy bits:

1) whilst playing Last night, i had a trade & research partner suddenly decide it would be fun to go to war with me - and my research dropped to under half of my intial research level! thsi is the level *before* i allied with them, i'm talking about! :P

2) i've found it almost always works out that i make alliances more easily with the supposedly bloodthirsty warrior races than the supposedly serene/friendly peacful ones. the latter often are intractable, and seem to be at war with *everyone* on the relatiion grid. it's like the roles are working backward.

right, now for the 'issues' part:

1) is it just me, or does it seem to anyone else entirely unreasonable that a huge gas giant, with a breathable atmosphere, should have a *maximum* population of 500m, and 5 facilities, while the medium rock planet in vaccuum next door can support 8000m/25?

2) why is it not possible to see at least approximately how large a given colony will *before* settling it? i know i'd rather invest my colony ship in an 8000m/25 planet than a 500m/5 one, given a choice.

a bit lame to use reply on my own poist, i know, but i just thought of another 'issue'...

3) why on earth is it impossible to agree to a cessation of war *without* agreeing to an alliance? a peace treaty does *not* a formal alliance make - it just means you agree not to kill each otherquite so aggressively.

1: If the gas giant can only support 500m that it is a domed colony and your race can't breath its atmosphere. No medium planet (that I know of) can support 8000m. Also, any colony built on a vacuum world must be domed, further limiting the population. If you want all of your planets to have populations in the billions, only colonize planets with little green stars next to them, which represents a breathable atmosphere.

2. Stats in parenthases (sp?) are for breathable atmospheres.

Tiny: 100m, 1 facility (500m, 5 facilities?)
Small: 200m, 2 facilities (1000m, 10 facilities)
Medium: 300m, 3 facilities (2000m, 15 facilities)
Large: 400m, 4 facilites (4000m, 20 facilities)
Huge: 500m, 5 facilites (8000m, 25 facilites)

Cargo space for all colonies is equal to twice the maximum population. This information is from the PlanetSize.txt file.

many thanks for the clarification re colony sizes. looks like i was (as usual) confised about that :P

the odd behaviour of the suppsoedly blodthirsty/peaceful races is, however, very real - as was the disappearing research. i'm endeavouring to make that particular one happen again.
