Your suggestion has been duly considered. Bear in mind for now that like a car dealership, sometimes you see a lemon, and sometimes you see a Mercedes. Some of the ships have special unique abilities as well (like gaining money randomly or additional combat damage), in rare cases, and some have very high stats, like 1000+ cargo capacity or very powerful weapons. I think it may throw off the balance of the game if a ship TOO powerful were made available too early, so I erred on the side of caution, as they say.
I tried to make it so at least 1 or 2 things still needed upgrading to make the ship ideal.
But if I do another patch, i'll look very closely at it.
