noticed this old topic when searching for something else:

According to Shrapnel, they prepared with a large print because of high amount of preorders. They however ran out pretty quickly, and got another as large. Which, of cource, ran out as well. Now running at 3rd print afaik and has broken all expectations

That's great news. IMHO this game is even better than old grand Master of Magic, something that I almost dispaired to see in my lifetime. I hope it'll sell extremely well for indep. game, and motivate the developers to even better sequiel with Dominions 3. I never played the original Dominions but based upon things said in this forum by Dominion 1 veterans, if Dom3 would be as big improvement to Dom2, as Dom2 was to Dom1...

Where can I preorder copies of it?!?

Because up until a month back, I hadnt even heard of Dominions 2 ... I am doing what I can to spread the word. It is far too great of a game not to inform those who might have been waiting for such a game (as I have). They should be well rewarded for their work, and indeed I do hope it also inspires them to move on to bigger and better (perhaps Dominions 3 or such).

I've gone back to forums I was heavily into when playing a different type of war/strategy game ... and posted my feelings on Dominions 2. Encouraging more sales, and hopefully enlarging the player base (which primarily means more to play the game with, contribute to new maps/mods/websites/etc.)

So feel free to do the same. No amount of effort would be too small. Just imagine if you hadn't discovered the game yet ... or worse.. missing it altogether. So spread the word, and help those (like us) find their way to an awesome game.

Dominions II is one of those rare gems that gives you hope in the world that games will not all be relegated to the status of mass-market shovelware. In a time when all the major publishers crank out crappy shovelware game after shovelware game, it's nice to see something new and completely different. Perhaps I'll wait a few more turns before wishing for "Armageddon".

Odds are that since there isn't any shelve space donated to this game, and there was almost no PR. I only saw two reviews for the game, PC Gamer, and Computer Gaming World, I doubt that there were a lot of copies sold. However, considering the resources needed to build the game (very few) the small development team(aproxx. 2 people), and the lack of spending for much else, it probably didn't take very many copies of the game to generate a profit...

Of course, I'm spreading the word bout this game cause its so great though... you guys should too.

The game was mentionend (together with a screenshot) in a report on the availability of games for Linux, in a farily recent issue of one of germany's major it-newspapers (called "c't"). I found that quite surprising! (In fact, antother Illwinter-game made it into that report, too.) I guess the increasing popularity of Linux helps Dom2, too.

On the other hand, I myself heard about this game in the WarlordsIV-forum ( bad game) and now I'm making my friends aware of Dom2...

(EDIT: I wrote III instead of IV above. Bad mistake.)

Sorry, I got that number wrong: I meant WarlordsIV, of course, the one that appeared Last autumn. Nevertheless, I didnt really enjoy WIII as I did enjoy W1 - since I could play W1 much more often with my local friends. (Maybe that depends on aging, marrying, etc...)

But now I am wondering how long I will be excited about DomII. I guess this also depends on the amount of friends of mine that I can convince to buy & play with me...

BTW: Is the Demo usable for PBEM with the full-Version, just to making them addict? (Well, of course accepting the limits for the play using the demo spell-level, 40th-turn-cap)

Demo and full Version are fullu compatible. You just have to finish the game or upgrade before turn 40, and if a player started playing with the demo there is nothing stopping him from switching to full Version and continuing with that.
