You can if you assign the hero using map commands. You cant with mod commands?

It's assumed their experience is already counted in their superior stats ... so they'll reach the 1st level of experience easier, and take the extra stats.

Yep. What Cohen said. I think they are more interesting (and/or more fun) starting out as they are, with exceptional talent, and then quickly gaining experience because they are at the bottom of the learning curve.

Default another brain fart for the national heroes

In an attempt to propose something of interest... here an idea to bolster a bit the weaker national heroes, while staying thematic:

Why not allowing an option like this one (at game start):

"give xxx XP to national heroes upon appearance"

With this option, if you choose say 50 xp, then the first heroes appearing would enter automatically the hall of fame, thus giving a nice random power to them. In the end game, you would have a little headstart with them, if you want to use them as combatting leaders, so that they enter more easily the HoF.

The option would serves the purpose of adding some random flavor to heroes which are supposed to be heroic, without unbalancing the game. I mean how can the veteran gladiator of Pythium arrive with 0 xp? Players dont care about this kind of heroes, whereas if the possibility remained that they come with a nice heroic attribute, then luck would be a bit better considered (I dont know about you, but all the french pbem I know off are played with Cherry mod scales now, it speaks about something!).

Another variation would be to add a script command for modding, which allow the modder to give XP at start for new units. It would serves to mod the national heroes and add some xp to some of them. Perhaps not the most powerful ones, but to the ones wich are supposed to be veterans.
