re-making mini.map
OK Im going to be tackling a new Version for Mini.tga/Mini.map
It will still be great for fast tests of army-vs-army (battle simulator). But it will also be the basis for some how-to on making maps, using map commands, modifying a map file for purposes such as giving yourself allies. Just a few provinces. Maybe 4 land and 2 water. Just enough to test with.
Using GIMP (the powerfull free paint program used to make many games including Dominions2) I have these 4 files. Im not much of an artist so these are just the 'hit a button' generators I found buried in the program.

What do you think? I will generate a smaller image of course. Someone with more patience can try turning THOSE monsters into playable maps. Which one looks like a good example to spark map-making interest?

Re: re-making mini.map
Actually Gandalf, if you could, make one with about 75% Water and 25% Land and generate a few there, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to make a mostly water map. Though my Gimping is quite amaturish, there has been a small need. As well as maybe some people playing an entire "Water Cult" game.

Re: re-making mini.map
Gandalf,
I think that there are parts of GIMP1 that could be used for a simple army testing ground. I'm very glad to hear that you are going to right a more complete guide to map modding. I've got an interest in it myself, but like everything else with Dom2, there is a learning curve involved.

Re: re-making mini.map
Gandalf,
One other thing. The 'links' page you setup for the random maps has some broken links. Specifically to the .zip files (windommap.zip and dommap-win.zip) Also, the new 'prettier' maps page has been moved.

Re: re-making mini.map
I like the look of Gimp4 the most, myself.

You mean these gimps? Or the random map files?
I can do either one but if I do gimps they wont a map file. I dont have the patience to add that stuff manually in except for the mini-map (6 provinces)
