Dom II Won\'t Open Any More
I was playing Dom II and I had just ended my turn when the game crashed. Since then, it will not open any more. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled several times. One time, the game reopened and then told me to get the 2.12 patch. When I got the patch, the game wouldn't reopen. Here's what happens when I click on the game icon, the screen jumps like it is switching to the 800x600 resolution, then it jumps to black then it jumps back to my operating screen in its normal 1024x768 setting. the game never opens now.
Any clues, any hints and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm holding up a couple of server games.

Re: Dom II Won\'t Open Any More
Thanks for the help. I'll try that tonight. I run Windows 98 rather than XP. Does that make any difference?

Re: Dom II Won\'t Open Any More
Other than the fact that your tempfiles are probably in a directory like C:\WINDOZE\TEMP, or just C:\TEMP, instead of the more complicated system? Probably not. Just look for a folder matching the domXXXXX format, where XXXXX is a number, I think beginning with 16, but I'm not sure, that is inside something which looks like a temp directory, and nuke it.

Just as a heads up - I just ran into this exact problem yesterday. When I went to the temp file, there was nothing using the domXXXXX format. But nuking the temp file anyway still fixed the problem.

It could have been hidden, and you might not have seen it if you're not set to view hidden files. Still, indiscriminate deletion can't go wrong. If at first it doesn't work, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

Re: Dom II Won\'t Open Any More
Just FYI, if your not sure where your Windows temporary directory is, just go to start->run and type in "%temp%" (without the quotes) and it should open it right up for you.
