Default Compare SE4 to Stars!

I'm wondering if any of you out there have had experience playing Stars! ? I found that to be an excellent game in the past.

Is SE4 a vastly different game? better game? etc...

Although Stars! is a very good game, SEIV is quite, quite better. It has more depth of gameplay in all fronts and for me a better game design that Stars!...

I'm more interested in seeing how S!SG stands up vs SEIV. While Stars! is over 5 years old, its successor looks to have more depth over the previous Version.

You wanna hear something really, really funny?

Several years ago, I was considering purchasing Stars! but decided against it because I thought it was too complicated.

I got this game by the pre order list which now was a few months ago. I have two bookcases of games near my computer. I was always playing something different, like West Front.or Alpha Centuri ect.
Since owning this game and meeting the fantastic modders here I swear to you that it has never been lifted from my cd tray since I put it in. I also am one of the gamers that bought STARS first shareware game. As night after night goes on of playing and grabbing the PRO Modders goodies, many times when playing and things click as research or ship building or planning an attack I will turn to my wife and Say "Boy I love this game" if she is not there then I say it to my dogs.No space stratgy game in my opinion comes close to the fun I have with SPACE EMPIRES IV

Hope this fanatic old dude will help you make a decision to buy it.

One note on Stars! Supernova, if you aren't aware of it: Empires Interactive is no longer the publisher, so it may be quite awahile before Stars! Supernova comes out.

Comparing SuperNova and SE IV will be interesting. Before IV came out I would alternate between the two games every few months. The bigest diference is that SE IV has warp point and Stars does not. That means that various systems have strategic importance where as in Stars you need to defend a wide front. There are a lot of minor differences but they are not as important. My recommendation is to buy them both, if SuperNova ever is released.

For the latest info on Stars Super Nova, vist there site at http://www.crisium.com/sn/snnews.htm

I think that both games have strong points, and therefore, there own character. Much the same way Rebellion and BOTF had theirs.
