OT: Rome Total War
Rome Total War is a totally different game from Medieval Total War. Now only faction family members can be generals and governors. As well, the player is forced to play as one of the three Rome factions before you can play any other faction. You can get around this by altering the descr_strat txt file in the Rome Total War/data /world/ maps/ campaign/ Imperial campaign directory. As always, remember to make a back up copy of the descr_strat txt file.
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
macedon
spain
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
thrace
numidia

If you are a total war nut like me I recommend setting the game’s difficulties settings to ‘hard’ or ‘very hard’. This way, you will get the most out of the game’s slightly sketchy AI. Still, on the whole, I found this a very good game.

Re: OT: Rome Total War
Nice. Unfortunally i dont have the game yet, but i will get it for sure. The trailers and previews was just awesome. Especially the voice acting:
"For Rome"
"For the Emperor"
"Legions, march"
Really awesome !

Re: OT: Rome Total War
I love the Total War Series. I have all of them except Rome Total War. alas, my system is only a 733 P# so I'm unable to play it, however, My oldest Son has it and I have watched him play it. Its awesome with some bugs (as usual with Comp games). I've been playing Napoleonic Total War Mod. Most excellent game and the Lordz are commended for their complete change of the game to this period.... Total War Series is 2nd on my top 10 list just behind Space Empire IV...

Hi Mac!
How are you? Long time not seen! Anyway, I bought Rome (US import Version) and I really like it. A guy named jpinard is doing some modding for Rome and I wonder if it our jpinard.
When I have some time I want to look at the AI of Rome myself and see what I can Mod.

Re: OT: Rome Total War
Hey there Mephisto, long time no see. Hope your doing well and enjoying yourself.... Good to see you still stop in on the forum... hope you'll have more time to jump in more.
If you like total war and Napolenoic or Civil war flavor, try the Lordz Napoleonic Mod... Its pretty darn good, artillery, muskets, cav charging squares, stand in line fire vollies and then defend against a bayonet charge.... even set ambushes.....

Re: OT: Rome Total War
Oh, I'm here nearly every day just not posting every day.
I have tried the Napoleonic Mod and I liked it quite well. Unfortunatley the AI isn't very good with ranged direct fire weapons, but it was fun nevertheless.
Well, I have taken Rome just yesterday from the Senate, on now the squish the remaining resistence!

Re: OT: Rome Total War
Rome is taking up way too much of my time. I recently started having dreams about bathing in the blood of our enemies....

Re: OT: Rome Total War
Rome:TW rocks. However, I would like it even better if multi-player extended to the strategic level of play. Also, IMO naval combat is way too abstract. On that note, I can not even name a computer wargame that recreates ancient naval battles. Even something like Sid Meier's original 1987 Pirates! to resolve naval battles would be an improvement (minus the captains' duel, of course).

Re: OT: Rome Total War
indeed, naval battles suck. Sometimes ships route, sometime they go down, sometimes you lose 1 ship per regiment...i cant seem to the hang of that. To make it worse there are WAY to much fleets out there between rome and karthago
