Default Game-U-would like to see

Ok, all of us love various types of games. However, designers and companies can't put out all of them. Therefore, If you could, what type of game would you like to see designed and put on the market? Describe the game if you would please.

I would like to see a civil war game made similair to the Total War design with the strategic and tactical aspects in this series.

I'd like to see a sort of 'merging' of simulation games and 4X. MOO III attempted to do this, but did it miserably wrong. The details you were allowed to control were all wrong, and the details you were NOT allowed to control were all wrong. Putting each bit of development into a 'build queue' that you can see but not influence is more than a bit stupid. Similarly, NOT being able to set force levels but having to rely on the AI to choose what ships and troops to build is incredibly stupid. Just give the player some 'zoning' commands and let the AI handle planet development like simcity handles city development -- with the occasional 'special' that players can explicitly install like power planets or military bases. BUT, let the player manage the armed forces. That's what the game is about.

Good topic!

The Total War series is excellent for combining long-term strategic considerations with great tactical combat. Personally, I would like to see a World War 2 type game based on this system, with a vastly expanded battlefield to accomodate vehicles.

Recently, I downloaded Chaos Overlords, an old game that I played a long time ago, from the Underdogs site. I couldn't help but think that it would be really good if the basic premise and atmosphere of Chaos Overlords could be combined with Dominions, i.e. instead of nations vying for dominion, you would have criminal gangs running around a huge megalopolis trying to influence the population into paying you protection money and working for you. In Dominions, whenever two rival armies are in the same province (unless one is stealthed), they always fight. It would be cool if the game were done like in Chaos Overlords, so that rival gangs in one sector don't actually fight unless explicitly ordered to (they could be given orders to kill a particular enemy that they see in the same sector or be set to patrol and kill any enemies in the same sector), and could be doing other things like researching, intimidating a special site to work for you, collecting protection money, recruiting, buying equipment etc. But when combat does happen, it would be done in the way Dominions now works.

I'm also irritated by the lack of a sci-fi equivalent of Daggerfall / Morrowind. I had a bLast with old games like Planet's Edge and Megatraveller: Quest of the Ancients. I wish there were good sci-fi RPGs on the market, but there doesn't seem to be any.

Finally, I'm still waiting for the perfect Elite successor. So far, the best one seems to me to be Hardwar, but that's considered old now too. I'm talking something with a high-fidelity flight model, real-life physics and astronomy, a full blown economics engine with AI bots that move around the universe in an intelligent manner to further their goals, and interesting dynamically-generated missions to perform.

deccan, Chaos Overlords was an awesome game, but it never seemed edgy enough for me. I'd have liked it if it had been combined with the Syndicate Wars mission interface. You get the hardcore violence in a gritty world, and the strategic element of taking over key areas in the city. Awesomeness.

a lot of game companies put out games and most fail, I don't believe they ck with gamers to really see what type of games that the consumer would like to see designed and developed. Granted games take a lot of time etc to complete, but it would be nice if they polled the consumer and see what we the gamers would like to see. Why waste time and money on games that no one really cares about. Better to look into what the consumer would like to see out there. I'm sure that with all the gamers out there, there would be a nice variety of ideas and some really interesting games. IMHO

'Holodeck, 11th century england, please. Give me a full suit of plate mail, clothes, and padding, money bag appropriate for the situation, sword, lance, shield and tilting shield, social status of 'knight' and a castle with fief sufficient for upkeep of all knightly requirements and a compotent and loyal steward. I will start in my castle. Add one dragon to the countryside, evil, about forty feet long, firebreathing, european. And don't forget: Safeties on.'

I'd like to see an RPG where the player was not 'limited' by race or class. But rather the player can custom build a character to his own playing style. I hate race and class restrictions. In most if not all current games it's impossible to play a dwarven thief, because they suffer a huge penelty to dex and charisma. Anyway, I have many of my own ideas on this, and someday I might take it upon myself to besign and build an RPG game that gives the Character Building and Designing controll over to the Player and lets them make and play the character THEY want to, and not someone's forced idea of what should be right. Bring on the Elf Warriors, Bring on the Barbarian Wizards, Bring on the Dwarven thiefs, Bring them all on. And give them the 'Skills' you want, not what certain 'classes' restrict you to.

Anyway, nuf said, Cheers!

^ you can kinda pull that off in morrowind. if you are willing to put in a little effort you can perfect most any of the skills regardles of race or starting class as long as you have the cash for a trainer and are willing to train yourself. Only Restriction is the "beast" races can't wear boots or odd fitting helms.

I'd like to see SE5, just the way I want it, with all my suggestions implemented.

Failing that, I'd like to see a wiki-MMPORG: Players live in a community-driven universe rather than a centralised, developper-led one. Open source code and distributed servers (much like the web) would allow the players to build the game universe themselves, and to mod the code or program pug-ins to allow all kinds of wierd and wonderful new items, behaviours and interactions. There would have to be some kind of central governing body to test, rate and approve code mods and maintain some kind of cohesion of the game universe and code, but there would be nothing stopping you stepping away from that body and doing your own thing if you wanted. You just wouldn't get so many visitors if you were left off the 'official' list.

Pretty soon you'd have a a somewhat anarchic Online universe of mind-boggling diversity, stunning sophistication and patchy but acceptable compatibility. (Sound familiar, web Users?) All in full-on, surround sound, seat-of-your-pants fully immersive 3D. Of course, the open-source and decentralised nature of the game would mean things like play balance and cheat-control went almost straight out the window from day one, but if the aim of the game was to create, explore, inform and socialise rather then to run around gaining XP and collecting trinkets, then who cares?
