Question on dom3 development Time Frame
If I understand things correctly, dom3 is planned to be out Q4 2005. That seems like a very ambitious goal, but Illwinter and Shrapnel know what they are doing. Let's hope everybody can stay on track budget- and timewise, and I will try to assume that dom3 is ready for ordering shortly before Christmas.
If the above were to be true, can someone who knows a lot more about these things (JO, KO, PvK, whoever) than I can imagine tell me if the following makes sense?
- To release around Xmas, the game will need to be "finished" with Beta-Testing in October, so that changes and fixes can be implemented and these, if necessary, retested.
- To have the Beta finished in October, Beta testing itself must be started near the end of August at the latest.
- To have Beta started in August, the game in some quasi-definitive will have to be finished by August.
- To have the game finished by August, the design and makeup of that which is to be programmed etc. must be ready by the end of May.
Question 1: Which of the above steps listed is faulty? All, none?
Question 2: If the general gist of the above is correct, perhaps shifted earlier/later by a few months here or there, would that imply that the developers basically need to know what dom3 will and can contain by around /March/ (shift accordingly)?
By this I do not mean primarily makeup of nations, number of gods, distribution of theme powers, etc. -- certainly not, since most of these could surely be tweaked after Beta. By this I mean rather primarly the *scope* of Dom3 innovations: The type of game it will be (e.g. whether there will be full alliances or not), general UI scope, etc.
Mostly just curious (seems like the time frame and its repercussions, if Dom3 is indeed going to be that which I envision it to be, be herculian, if not downright sisyphisian!!), but would also like to know how / if to continue to best articulate constructive and helpful "wishlist" contributions.
