Default Oh Oh this is sweet, check it out.

Ok so I am playing a test game of STM and decide to attack a neutral held world after the neutral mined the warp points. I had a planet in their space so I did a crash course on mine sweeping and built several sweepers. I also built attack ships, mainly laser beam and CSM ships. I had a few pop transports floating about so I sent them to my HW and loaded them with infantry.

It took about 10 to 15 turns before I attacked. I did tactical because it was early in the game and I wanted to play the part of fleet commander. Note to self, weapons platforms have long reach.

Any ways, I attacked and they dispatched fighters. My ships held back and picked the fighters off as they came in. I moved within striking distance of the planet, and was pummelled for it. I got off a lot of shots, so the damage I took was acceptable. NOTE to Aaron Hall, please for the love of god consider using a "L" on the leader ship to signify it in battle in order to prevent it being clicked on inadvertantly in a pacarious situation and thus costing the player his entire fleet.

Allow me to explain. I worked my way into the planet, and was able to drop droops. 191 blood thirsty Imperial Klingons soldiers hit the dirt and began sloughtering the weak neutral troops. Then, purely by accident, I clicked on the lead ship, my intention was to have it move in to cover the other troop transports. To my dismay my entire line collapsed and my ships scurried about aimlessly. Needless to say they were out of position for firing on the planet or for defending the transports. Next turn I lost my entire battle fleet of 28 ships to the planets weapon platforms. Platforms I could have destoryed had that ship I clicked on not been the Lead ship.

Most frustraiting. Any ways the campaign was lost, or was it?

Having lost my entire battle fleet, the neutral was most assuredly laughing at me. Defeat is most humiliating, especailly to a Klingon.

Any ways I set about giving que orders to build a new fleet. I processed the turn and to my surprise, my Klingon Soldiers continued to fight on the planets surface despite having no fleet support. They widdled down the defense forces and within three more turns, 30 battle turns, the planet that had destroyed my entire battle fleet was mine.

I promptly pormoted awarded the entire assualt for with the order of Kahless, and promoted the General who lead the assualt to Grand General. In addition, I ordered the leaders of the planet executed and the disidants spaced.

I reinforced the planet with 100 more troops on the following turn and placed a mine field about the planet. Soon I will return to take out the moon that orbits this world, and Kahless willing, eventually take on and capture their home world.

Your Generals are truly ingenious, but your Admirals should be recycled into the spacepig's fodder without a doubt

The Pa'Tok paid for his stupidity. My new admiral has done a far superior job. Although he lost half of his battle fleet and all troops dropped on the Tamarian homeworld were repelled, they are indeed warriors, he held orbit and obliterated the planets defenses. A reinforcement fleet of 55 ships is now ready to launch our second attack.

If there was a Stargate Mod that Admiral would have answered to his God, no questions asked. Spacing is too good for them

Good to see the Campaign was Victorious

The Tamarions have fallen to the might of the Klingon empire. We seiged their world, bombed it from orbit for 30 turns and then demanded their surrender. They copitulated without incident and are now members of the Imperial Klingon Empire.

hmmm, sounds like perfectly sound 'Kamakazi' battle tactics to me... And you want us to believe that that brilliant tactical 'diVersion' happening over the planet was an error? Shame on you,.. from the description you gave it sounded like a Glorious Day to die for your fleet commanders.

IHMO In true Klingon tradition, their 'sacrifices' were not in vain. The fleet admiral made the ultimate sacrifice for the glory of the Empire.

Ok,.. in hindsight you might be right, but there are several ways to look at the outcome of this scenario.

Best of all it sounds like you were having fun. (Oh, and I'll mention the 'Leader flagship icon' thing to Aaron.)

Cheers!

In Tactical Combat under Options there's a toggle called something like "Show Group Identifiers". Turning it on puts numbered red flags on the ships and a blue flag on the leader.

I think we've all had the "ah, for the luvva...!!" moment with the fleet deciding to follow a stupid mouseclick.

formations are nearly useless in tactical combat. i just use them to move large Groups of ships close to the enemy, and then i clear all group assignments.

but i dont play tactical very often, so i guess its a moot point.

I thought those blue and red ID tags were turned on by default?

OK, time for a break, you are way too much into this game. Turn off the computer. Get dressed. Go out, someplace where there are no klingons/space games/scifi. Do a little hunting, go fishing, test drive some cars, chase some skirt, mess with the junkies down the street, torment the kids next door. Get in touch with the real world again. And remember, the AI does not and can not laugh at you.
