Re: Yor global enchantment was overpowered..????
There can only be 5 global enchantments active at one time. When you (or somebody else) tries to cast a 6th one, one of the existing ones is selected at random and its power is compared to the power of the new spell (i.e. the number of gems used in their casting are compared, which is why it can pay off to put extra gems into a spell). If the new spell is stronger than the old, the old one is dispelled and replaced by the new one. If the old one is stronger, the new one fails and you get the message about it being overpowered by the existing global enchantment.

This can also happen if you try to cast a global that someone else has already cast - yours has to compete with the existing one, and may fail.

What if 4 global enchanments belong to you, and the 5th one belongs to an enemy. If you cast a 6th global, will it automatically attempt to override the enemy global, or is there a risk of overriding one of your own globals? In my current game, I have hesitated to cast another global for fear of killing one of my own like this.

Pretty sure I've taken one of my own out before, so - the odds seem 4 to 1 that you'd take out one of your own.

Re: Yor global enchantment was overpowered..????
The spell can override an enemy, I had
five spells up and running last night.
Guess I got lucky.
(hmm, four to one, I might place
some bets on the horses today!)

hmmmm, not the best odds. Think I'll just stick with the current situation.

Re: Yor global enchantment was overpowered..????
So what about dispelling one and casting out the other spell in the same turn, does that work?

Re: Yor global enchantment was overpowered..????
It could, but the spellcasting order is pretty random. The mages always cast their spells in the same order in relation to each other, except when that order is reversed, but there is still that chance of it being reversed. Too costly, as it would cost you the cost of either a global or a dispel, both pretty hefty when all the global slots aren't enough anymore.
