facility questions
Just out of curiousity since someone mentioned the Last Star Fighter in another thread...
Does anyone know
1) How facility damage points are calculated?
2) Do different facilities have different hit points?
The reason I ask is the above movie kind of got me thinking, it might be kind of cool to have hardened military facilities. I know weapons platforms can be hardened sort of with armor and shields, and you could always add a planetary shield generator. But I thought it might interesting to simulate things like underground command centers, bases in mountains, underground fighter bases/launch silos etc.

Re: facility questions
Was unable to see anything in the file about damage levels.
Great ideas though e-mail MM with the ideas.

Re: facility questions
I'm pretty sure it works on a percentage level. If you destroy 10% of a planet's hit points, 10% of facilities are destroyed. It explains how I've had facilities destroyed while bombarding planets to kill the WeaponPlatforms... very annoying when that 10% happens to be a SY, Resupply Depot, ahd/or Space Port...

Re: facility questions
I have notice that during tactical combat you don't damage any buildings until the weapons platforms are destroyed.
Is this correct????

Re: facility questions
It's probably something like that but I'm not sure it's based off the straight percentages. I've bLasted key facilities before trying to take enemy defenses like you, kind of sucks to accidentally bombard that Event Predictor instead of that pesky weapons plat. I just ran the simulator a couple of times to test out some stuff with troops and I pounded my simulated homeworld for 3k out of 9k points before dropping my troops and I hadn't destroyed a facility yet.

Correct. That also applies for all other unit types on planet. Only after all cargo is gone, population and facilities take damage.

Re: facility questions
Maybe what happened to me was the rollover damage... I've had anywhere from 0 to 3 facilities destroyed from bombardment of units... I was using Heavy EAG IIIs though, 300 damage each hit, and if you have all but 10 unit hitpoints left and hit with 300, it seems that the 10 are destroyed, and then the full 300 rolls over to the facilities and population.

Re: facility questions
Be sure to right click on the planet to see what facilities you have destroyed so far.

Re: facility questions
Good suggestion Instar. I do that quite often to see if is worth capturing the planet or do I want save my grunts for later assaults. Always nice to capture a planet with a space yard and resupply depot so you can gain yourself a forward base.

Re: facility questions
You can now even use the strategic combat if you mark in the strategies option/damage the field "fire on target till all weapons gone". This works very well in my experience for the capture of planets. You still may loose a few facilities if your ships have very powerful weapons but the majority remains intact.
