Default Another newbie question: Re: Damage calculation

Ok, I promise not to post another newbish game mechanics question for awhile after this one, so please indulge me one more time! Besides, I am sure that once I get the full game, 1) I will be too busy playing to pester you guys; and 2) most of my questions will be answered within the manual that accompanies the game.

Ok, here's the question: Basically, how is damage calculated in relation to Protection? Let's say a unit has 10 strength and 10 damage weapon. So I assume the total damage is 20, no? Further, say he hits a unit with a Protection of 15.

What happens? I read at the Wikipedia page for Dom III that protection "subtracts" from the weapon damage and strength. So does that mean that the unit with a Protection of 15 will be dealt 5 damage in general from the unit that has 20 total damage potential (weapon damage plus strength)?

What other variables go into this calculation? Is there a "crit" hit in Dom III?

Thanks in advance, and I really did try to find the answer online, even poring over Sunray's website
