Ok, here's the scoop. AI design ministers will cause a
Range Check Error as soon as they research (or otherwise aquire)
Solar Sail 3.
The problem is that the AI sees the 9 movement points, and ignores the 20kT size
Thus, they try to use the sails exclusively, and when they add the 29th sail, the total propulsion hits 261 (max 255). RCE occurs, but since it is a AI's turn, no error message shows up, and the game freezes.
To fix:
Copy the components.txt attached in ZIP form above, and overwrite your old P&N v2 Components.txt
If no players are using solar sails on a ship design, your game will be unaffected.
All P&N zips on this forum now contain the patched components.txt, so if you are about to download P&N, this problem does not affect you.
